Masami Kurumada was right to change the shape of the scale from Octopus to Manta Ray for Isaak Kraken!
an octopus totem wouldn't have had the same impact !

The thing with going that way is that the Kraken Scale looks more like a Leviathan. Still a great Armour desing with an Ok Object. 

 

I prefer your take anyway.
